Jacking Force Prediction for Rectangular Shape

Underground infrastructures such as subways, sewage systems, power supply systems, and utility tunnels now require more environmentally friendly and sustainable construction methods. However, applying the conventional open-cut method to construction in urban underground spaces is challenging due to various political and ecological restrictions. The pipe jacking method, a trenchless technology, offers advantages such as low comprehensive cost, no disturbance to traffic, and low environmental impact, and has been widely used. Recently, the refined application of underground space has become a trend for metropolises, as rectangular spaces offer a higher space utilization ratio compared to circular spaces. Therefore, rectangular pipe jacking technology has more potential application scenarios. This research aims to develop an accurate jacking force prediction equation for rectangular pipe jacking, considering the pipe-soil contact state. Moreover, the most important aspect of the pipe jacking method is to lay the pipe with the required quality without impacting existing structures, such as causing ground surface subsidence or collapse. To address this, an environmentally friendly hardening-type lubricant with fly ash has been developed.
