Internal Survey Techniques

Internal survey techniques for tracing the vertical and horizontal alignment of buried pipes and tunnels can involve several different techniques:

  • In person entry pipe and tunnels, conventional surveying techniques can be used to record the precise alignment
  • CCTV platforms or similar can be fitted with accelerometer-based or gyroscopic tracking devices that will trace the alignment between the known starting and end points of the survey
  • In larger pipes or tunnels, a drone-based survey system can be used
  • Point cloud survey systems can be combined with the other methods to build a full 3-D mapping of the underground asset.
